Weekend Building Hours for 10/24-10/25 2015

Greetings All,

I hope that the week has been a good one. Is it really possible that we have almost reached the end of October? While that acknowledgement may now seem insignificant, it will reign supreme when we are suddenly faced with the reality of busy holiday activities. Yes, the school year is indeed moving along.

It will never become redundant to recognize the accomplishments that are taking place throughout our school community. Those achievements transcend across the fields of academics, athletics and the arts. Go Panthers. This weekend once again marks a period of busy events across the Washington Metropolitan Region. The much anticipated Marine Corps Marathon will highlight those activities. I would be remiss if I did not pay tribute to those gallant souls of the Holton-Arms Community who have participated in that challenging event. Whether you completed that course in record time or a week, simply finishing a 26.2 mile run is a feat of sheer determination. Just for the record, that week long time period sounds pretty good to me. To those of you who will be participating in this year's event, we wish all of you the very best.

The weekend building hours for October 24-25, 2015 are posted below. Daylight Savings time ends on November 1, so do not turn those clocks back just yet. Before we begin the weekend, please allow me to focus just briefly on some thoughts. This has been a very tragic week with regards to pedestrian fatalities across this area. Just the other day, a 95-year-old woman was tragically struck while crossing busy River Road just a few miles from our campus. The topic of pedestrian safety is a very important issue within a congested metropolitan area such as ours. A rapidly growing population and increasing vehicular traffic has simply outpaced infrastructure development concerning roadway improvements. Most critical among those improvements involves the installation of appropriate traffic designs that assist in keeping pedestrians safe. Those designs include the modification and enhancement of sidewalks, crosswalks and even traffic signals. With evening darkness beginning earlier, it is especially important during this time of year to exercise caution while walking or cycling. This word of advice is also extended to those of us behind the wheel. Please remember to keep a watchful eye out for pedestrians and cyclists. There are unfortunately numerous factors that can result in pedestrian fatalities, including human error. Despite that fact we must always remember that paying full time and attention is indeed a factor that we can control.

On behalf of all my good friends in the Facilities Department, I would like to wish all of my colleagues a safe, relaxing and very enjoyable weekend.

Thank you everyone and take care.

Ken
