On June 25, 2016, Caryn Coppedge McNeill '84 was named president-elect of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). McNeill will officially start her term as the association's 123rd president in the beginning of June 2017. Currently, McNeill is a partner at Smith Anderson in Raleigh, North Carolina and leads the employee benefits and executive compensation group at Smith Anderson.
McNeill has made a significant impact in Employee Benefits Law in North Carolina. She was recognized as "Lawyer of the Year" in Raleigh for Employee Benefits Law in 2013 and 2016 and since 2010, she has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for her work. Smith Anderson managing partner, Gerald Roach, shared in a press release about McNeill's leadership, "Her service to the community and profession embodies what it means to be a lawyer. Her leadership will serve the Bar Association and the broader community well."
McNeill has also additionally served in multiple capacities on The ESOP Association, National Association of Stock Plan Professionals, the Triangle Benefits Forum, and the Montreat President's Council to name a few. She will also chair the Audit and Finance committee for the NCBA and the NCBA Foundation in conjunction with her role as president.
