Greetings All,
Congratulations, we have made it to the first official weekend of the school year. In this season of conflicting polls, it is safe to say that a clear majority opinion reveals that weekend remain highly revered. I hope that the week has been a good one. Unfortunately regardless of how often we look at that calendar, June has not arrived my friends. No worries, we are going to have a tremendous year. Go Panthers !
On behalf of the entire Facilities Department, I would like to wish all of my colleagues a safe and relaxing weekend. Before we finally depart for the day, please allow me to share just a few brief notes with you.
1. WEEKEND BUILDING HOURS FOR SEP. 10-11, 2016
Saturday, September 10th, 2016- 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, September 11th, 2016- 12 noon until 8:00 p.m.
2. 9-11 REMEMBERANCES
It is hard to believe that this upcoming Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. We need not dwell on the insurmountable tragedies associated with that event. Instead we can reflect on how our nation and the global stage for that matter has changed since that day. The Washington Post is running an interesting article this weekend that reflects on that horrible memory through the eyes of surviving children. If we think about it, babies who were just born at that time are now young adolescents. Adolescents at that time are now young adults as the passage of time moves along. Once again our entire school community joins the nation in remembering and recognizing the lives that were lost.
3. NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK
Yes, I know that you are asking where in the world am I going with this ? Well, September 5-9 did mark the observance of National Payroll Week. For those who enjoy receiving compensation for the fruits of our labor, we can certainly appreciates the efforts of all payroll professionals. In our case, we have to recognize our very own Patti Martin. I often stop by her office and see those long rolls of adding tape stretching from here to Rockville. Hmm, with my mathematical mind, that roll of tape would be endless. Patti, we know that we acknowledged you a few months ago during the Milestone Ceremony, but I just wanted to take the time to extend to you a collective thank you from everyone. According to the American Payroll Association, approximately 2.2 trillion dollars is generated annually with respect to payroll withholding systems. In essence, the labor force dominates a tremendous portion of our economy.
