Last week, I talked about my experience turning off my school email for nearly ten days the week before pre-season, the final week of my vacation. I noted that truly disconnecting made me feel more rested and rejuvenated than I had felt in previous years when I kept reading my email throughout my vacation. I also made passing reference to other advantages that come from taking breaks, such as increased productivity and enhanced creativity. This week, I'm going to explore in greater depth the benefits of vacations.
Before I go any further, I want to acknowledge that some of us have much more flexibility in our work than others. I imagine some of you feel that you can't enjoy a truly work-free vacation. Also, one can go on vacation with every intention of being disconnected when a crisis arises that destroys every possibility of realizing that intention.
