Varsity ice hockey will be playing in the Mid-Atlantic Girls Hockey League finals tomorrow, Friday, February 3 against Archbishop Spalding at the Laurel Ice Rink.
After finishing in first place in the AA Division with an overall record of 9-1, the varsity ice hockey team entered the post season determined to avenge last year's second place finish. Monday, January 30 Holton finished their final regular season with a solid 7-2 win against Georgetown Visitation. They had a quick turnaround before facing them for the third time this year in the first round of the playoff. Visitation served Holton it's only league loss of the year on November 28 with a final score of 2-4. With a championship game on the line, the Panthers faced Visitation yesterday in the first round of plays offs.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Holton goalies, Gillian Farland '20 and Gaby Henry '18 split time in the net saving a combined 30 shots! Nina Carter '19 also rose to the challenge, after recently being moved up to play forward, recording a hat trick (three goals) and one assist. As the clock hit zero, Holton won with a score of 7-2.
"We suffered a tough loss in the championship game last year and are excited to have a chance at the championship title again this year. We definitely used our entire team to get our regular season wins. With a lot of injuries to some of our top players, we pulled through as an entire unit and bonded a lot as a team; this will definitely help us tomorrow night," commented Coach Wilde.
Be sure to come out to Laurel and cheer on the Panthers!
