Last Thursday, I had the privilege of accepting several trophies from two different student groups. Co-Editors-in-Chief Rebecca Chan '17 and Emily Shiroma '17 presented me with the Columbia Scholastic Press Association's Gold Crown Award in the hybrid category that Scroll and Scrolling, Holton's print and online literary and arts magazine, had won for the fourth consecutive year. This is the highest award a student publication can receive. At the same Morning Assembly, I also accepted a first place Documentation Trophy and a Spirit of Botball award from Sara Greisdorf '17 and Christine Baca '17, captains of the Robotics Team who had just competed in the annual DMV Botball Tournament. The Holton team earned the Documentation Trophy (which they also won last year) by carefully documenting each phase of the competition from the start of building their robot. They earned the Spirit award by all dressing as their advisor, Mr. Lee, in tie-dyed lab coats over khakis and white, button-down collared shirts. Holton placed fifth overall out of 25 competitors, the best we've ever done and beating both Thomas Jefferson teams as well as Churchill.
