On Tuesday, Upper School students planned and guided conversations for the Middle School's 2nd Annual Mini-Diversity Conference. Student facilitators were selected because they had shown an interest in issues around diversity, equity, and identity and had attended local and national diversity trainings over the past two years. With direction and support from members of TIDE (Towards Identity, Diversity, and Equity), these student leaders led conversations with small groups of Middle Schoolers regarding race, sexuality/gender identity, and allyship. The activities and conversation starters they designed helped students to practice skills necessary to enter into challenging conversations while at the same time respecting the privacy and variety of perspectives of their classmates. Activities like these are just one example of the many opportunities where students at Holton are building the vocabulary, knowledge, and skills needed for increased self-awareness and leadership. We want members of our community to feel that they can bring their full selves to Holton, share who they are, and live into the very best version of their potential. We hope that you will continue this work by extending the conversations with your daughters at home.
