Seventh Grade Math Trailing at the National Mall!

On September 28, Grade 7 advisory groups embarked on a math trail to commence the first STEM Outside-the-Box (OTB) day of the year! The goal of the day was to embark on the beauty of D.C. while exploring all the mathematical components of objects in the metropolitan area. The Math Trail on the Mall required students to examine different monuments, museums, and even a manhole cover, and uncover the mathematical components within each structure. The interpretation of these objects were vast and each group disseminated what lines, shapes, and figures they saw in each unique object. Once back at Holton, the students created art projects inspired by the pictures taken on the trip (see pic of Ms. Archibald's advisory group project below!) What an adventure for our Grade 7 students to explore and see the National Mall in a creative, mathematical lens!
