Overcoming fears and challenges was the theme of this year's Lower School Reading Celebration, which took place on Fri., Sept. 14. The daylong program included deep, cross-grade discussions and engaging activities, all inspired by the summer reading book, After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) by Caldecott Medal winner Dan Satat.

Students had opportunities to reflect on the book's lessons, challenges and fears that they themselves have overcome, and how those experiences have transformed them. They explored strategies for continuing to tackle challenges that arise and deepened their relationships with students from different grades, and sixth graders built leadership skills, directing their own small-group discussions.

"Reading Celebration is one of my absolute favorite Lower School events," says Lower School Director Christy Diefenderfer.

"The girls seemed to love it, and hopefully it'll be a day for them to remember for years to come," adds Lower School Librarian Evelyn Schwartz.
