The entire Holton community gathered together in the amphitheater Tuesday, September 3, 2013 to celebrate the opening ofImage may be NSFW.
Clik here to view. the School’s 113 year. Highlights included witnessing new third grade students, the class of 2023, processing into the ceremony on their first day as Holton girls and recognizing seniors on their last opening day who will cross the bridge in June for Commencement.
Chair of the Board Martha Dippell ‘68, (mother of Maddy '05, Lizey '08, and Greer ‘14) delivered the invocation and welcomed the Holton community to the event by sharing a story of unbelievable coincidence of a Holton connection half-way around the world. After the singing of the Alma Mater, Head of School Susanna A. Jones took the podium. Ms. Jones shared her hope that all gathered would commit to take responsibility for their actions in both small every day ways and larger more impactful ones as well.
Steven Cutts, Middle School history teacher, spoke as the faculty and staff representative and engaged the audience by sharing the sentiment of keeping life in balance and using Mrs. Holton’s science scale from the early nineteenth century as a visual aid. Students Emma Raynor ’14, Lexi Boo ’18, and Bianca Barth ’20 each took the stage as representatives of their respective divisions to share impactful experiences from their summer.
This year’s community sing was “Somos el Barco” by Lorre Wyatt and the convocation concluded with a rousing version of “America the Beautiful.”
