Campus Notes of Interest-Jan. 30, 2019

Greetings All,

I hope that your morning commute will be a good one. Once again please be careful on the roadways and keep an eye out for potential slick spots. The main roads during my early commute were fine. It appears that the pre-treating administered by most jurisdictions was very beneficial. Area secondary roads can always differ in terms of issues so be mindful of that.

Overall our campus fared pretty well. An assessment of the grounds is being conducted this morning. The greatest challenges during these conditions remains the consistent possibility of surfaces re-freezing. Those familiar safety tips that we have often shared remain valuable throughout the season. Utilize proper footwear, layer up and exercise extreme caution while driving and walking. We continue to appreciate your assistance in reporting any campus areas requiring attention.

Indeed, we can consider ourselves fortunate when observing other parts of the nation. The outdoor temperature in Chicago this morning has been recorded at -18 degrees. Keep in mind that is the current air temperature without factoring in the wind chill. I tremble at even contemplating that reading. Along with the wintry conditions, there is a high wind advisory for our metropolitan area. Please be mindful of unsecured items around your residence. It should be noted that our campus flags will remain at rest today.

In closing simply envision a picture perfect day at the beach. Those wishful images may indeed help us get by.

Thank you my friends and have a great day.

Kenny
