Holton-Arms Human Resources Assistant, Patti Martin, recently won a gold medal at the Huntsman World Senior Games as a part of the Maryland Roadrunners Women's 55+ softball team. The Huntsman World Senior Games is an international senior sports competition for men and women ages 55 and older competing in 27 athletic events over a two-week period each October.
Martin has been an integral part of the team for over 15 years. She is the starting first baseman and is recognized in senior softball circles as one of the best first basemen in the country.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Martin's play is that she is competing with players two age groups younger than that in which she is eligible to play. The Roadrunners compete in the 55+ age group. Several of their players, including Martin, are eligible to play in the 60+ and 65+ age groups. Since she is such a strong player, her teammates will not let her leave their team to move on to a new age group. Despite the fact that she plays against players who may be 10 years younger than she, Patti remains the best first baseman in the 55+ senior softball age group. In her 15 seasons with the team, Patti has been honored twice as an All-American and five times as an All-Tournament player.
This past season was the team's most successful yet! In addition to their big win at Huntsman, the Roadrunners also won the gold medal at the National Senior Olympic Games in Minneapolis, MN and the SPA National Championship in Dalton, GA.
Congratulations, Patti!
