Varsity basketball's Lillian Baker '17 was selected by the Holton Athletic Association as "Panther of the Week" for her performance throughout the beginning of the season.
November 11 marked the start of the winter sports season at Holton. Girls from all grades showed up to participate in swimming and diving, winter crew training, ice hockey and off season conditioning. While everyone else started their first day of practice, basketball had 22 girls trying out for either varsity or junior varsity. Baker was among the group, and had her sights set on varsity.
During tryouts, the coaches noticed that Baker stepped up as a vocal leader, always encouraging her teammates. She worked hard during tryouts and always brought an intensity to her work that made it impossible for her to go unnoticed. When the final roster was made, Baker was an obvious choice for varsity.
Baker's determination to become a better basketball player has continued to impress the coaches. They comment that, "Her ability to take constructive criticism and pick up offensive and defensive concepts quickly, has allowed her to be successful during the first week of practice and in the first scrimmage. We are excited to have Lillian on our team and look forward to a great season."
You can check out Baker and the varsity basketball team as they take on St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 10 at home. Click here to check out the rest of the schedule and results.
