On today's blog, Upper School History and Social Science teacher Dr. Wilson shared with The Scene what was happening in his AP Art History class:
The AP Art History class regularly goes on Sunday afternoon field trips to D.C. area museums. The class emphasizes seeing art in person – and we live in a great city for that. Yesterday, we went to the National Gallery and Hirshhorn Museum to see works by artists that the students have been studying for the past couple of weeks: van Eyck, Vermeer, Fragonard, and De Kooning. One of the guards at the National Gallery – usually quiet and solemn – welcomed our group and talked to us in the Vermeer room (he also offered his spot-on impression of President Obama!) I was reminded of how some Holton alums told me that when they took art history with Miss Brown, they went to the National Gallery so often that the guards knew them by name.
Here is a snapshot of the group's visit to the National Gallery of Art!
