On September 16, Lower School participated in the annual Lower School Reading Celebration. This year, the Lower School read Mirrors, which reflects the lives of two different families going through their everyday tasks such as going to school, work, and life at home. The entire Lower School separated into discussion groups which were led by sixth grade leaders who then fostered conversations about the similarities and differences between the families. The girls were then given time to work with a partner to create a collage representing important elements in her life. After creating the collage, the girls had to "visibly think" through questions such as, "What do you see? What do you think about that? What does it make you wonder?" Once these discussions flourished, the girls wrapped up the activity by dropping everything and reading a book.

This Lower School Reading Celebration is the catalyst for an upcoming All-School Read that will happen in October. The activity will be based on issues of diversity and inclusion, one of Holton's priorities for the upcoming year. Check out The Scene again for more on the All-School Read next month!
