Asher enters the season with one year of varsity under her belt. From the first day of preseason, she decided to take it upon herself to help lead this squad by example. Her work ethic, attitude and commitment to her teammates has been top notch. With many new faces on the varsity team, Asher retained her starting role and her coaches predict she will be a key contributor throughout the year.
Asher typically plays in the back, taking a defensive role helping to protect the goal. However it is her speed and ability to make overlapping runs from the back line of defense that has often started the attack and helped create opportunities for Holton to score goals. Divisively, she is aggressive in her tackles, has a calm presence with the ball and is able to see the field while under pressure. Her coaches add, "most importantly, Virginia has been extremely coachable, shows excellent sportsmanship and always has smile on her face."
You can check out Asher and the varsity soccer team as they take on Maret at 4:15 p.m. at home on the track field on Wednesday, October 5. Click here for the most up to date schedule and results and click here for more photos of the varsity soccer team.
