On October 7, it was Math-on-the-Mall Day for Grade 4 students in Ms. Myers' class. The yearly tradition of traveling to the National Mall involves the girls taking measurements of well-known United States national monuments.
Ms. Myers explains, "The girls were challenged to think mathematically as they explore the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Monument, and the Reflecting Pool. They collaborated to determine how to reasonably work and solve math problems. They also searched for geometric shapes, estimated, counted, read Roman numerals, and found perimeters and circumferences."
It was a exciting and exploratory day in Washington, D.C. for our fourth graders! Check out the pictures below of how they navigated and measured the Mall.
