Holton-Arms officially opened the 2018-2019 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 4 with Convocation, a special, spirited event that celebrates community and sets the tone for the coming months.

The morning began with shouts and cheers of welcome from the senior class, who lined the entrance road as students and families arrived on campus before school. Later, each grade assembled for their traditional procession into the Camalier Amphitheater.

Once seated, students, faculty, staff, parents, and Board members enjoyed inspiring remarks and lively music. Board Chair Claudia Mispireta Hinsch '85 gave a warm welcome to all new and returning faces, and Chinese teacher Dr. Amy Liao discussed her journey to and at Holton, "where great things start." Eden Halpert '19, Sam Tate '23, and Sophia Zachary '25 each spoke of the ways that Holton has helped them grow, build confidence, and blossom into their best selves.

In her uplifting talk, Head of School Susanna Jones asked students to consider not just the ways they will learn this year, but also how they will lead. "By being Holton girls, you all have the power of a great education and the power of opportunity," she said. "You can use all these powers whether or not you have a formal leadership role to make the world around you...better."
