Greetings All,
A long weekend awaits us and the timing is perfect. The traditional hectic pace of September was intensified by the proliferation of current events. Hopefully this break in the rhythm will allow everyone to exhale for just a bit. Perhaps you are going away on a jaunt or entertaining family and friends. Regardless of the intent, I sincerely hope that every enjoys this October recess.
The weekend hours are posted below. Please note that the building will be closed on Monday, October 8 in recognition of the Fall Break.
In closing, we know that stories of compassion bring a welcome relief to the soul. Locally, one of those stories involves a young school administrator at a D.C. Public School. Langley Elementary School is located in the historic Eckington neighborhood. It is also identified as a Title One school which means a majority of the students are from low-income households. This is an important fact to remember when acknowledging the significant economic and demographic transformations occurring within the city. While many communities are rising, others continue to encounter seemingly insurmountable impediments. Children unfortunately are often caught within that socio-economic dichotomy. This brings us to the ongoing efforts of committed educators and their roles in addressing that challenge.
Upon arrival, Principal Vanessa Drumm-Canepa immediately recognized the tremendous voids in the lives of her students. Those voids often correlate to the absence of critical developmental components. In underserved communities, schools stand at the forefront in the effort to mitigate such needs. Accordingly at Langley, distinct learning models have been created to address cognitive, emotional and even disciplinary needs.

Thank you as always my friends and take care.
