The Winter Break awaits us in just one week. Wow, it feels good to say that. I hope that the week has gone well. It was once again an event filled week which is certainly no revelation for our active campus. The sounds of beautiful music and the creation of gingerbread houses are just a mere sample of the season's symbols. Speaking of gingerbread houses, it is amazing to see the final results of those sugary architectural marvels. I could have sworn there was a flat screen television and a chaise lounge inside of one. Who needs Frank Lloyd Wright?
The weekend building hours for December 12-13, 2015 are posted below. Please note that provisions are in place for the weekend's events which includes among others, the US Lock-In and ACT testing. If you are planning on attending the US/MS Winter Choral Concert on Sunday the weather (and the melodies) should be marvelous. We eagerly await the rave reviews.
While we joyfully relish in the spirit of the season, let us take a somber moment to remember Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta. Officer Leotta passed away on December 10th from severe injuries he sustained while conducting a traffic stop. In a tragic sense of irony, he was struck by an impaired driver while participating in the annual Holiday Alcohol Task Force targeting drunk driving. Officer Leotta was one of two Montgomery County Police Officers to be struck by an impaired driver within the last week. Fortunately, the other officer who was struck sustained injuries that are considered non-life threatening. This has certainly been a very tumultuous year for law enforcement. In acknowledging that fact, we must also recognize that policing in Modern America represents an extremely challenging profession within a rapidly changing world. While continuing to rightly demand accountability from those in authority, let us not forget the sacrifices of so many in service to their communities.
On behalf of all my good friends from the Facilities Department, I would like to wish my colleagues a very safe and relaxing weekend. Thank you everyone and take care.
