Varsity lacrosse's Soleine Fechter '17 has been selected by the Holton Athletic Association (HAA) as "Panther of the Week" for her leadership, performance and spirit throughout the season.

On Thursday, April 27 the varsity lacrosse team celebrated their five seniors, Soleine Fechter '17, Alexandra Fraser '17, Wei Wei Hsu '17, Annelise Kotz '17, and Mary Clare Onufer '17 during their game against ISL opponent Stone Ridge. This division rival was hungry for a win after Holton beat them twice last year, including bumping them out of the tournament.

Holton entered the game excited and determined to win the game. No one more so than Soleine Fechter '17. She played with fire and passion always putting her teammates first. She set the tone for the game and helped the Panthers come out on top with a final score of 20-13. Although individual stats are not something Fechter cares about, she broke the team record for goals and points in a single game putting away eight goals and adding two more assists! More importantly, she also caused turnovers, assisted goals, and came up with crucial ground balls and draw controls.

In sports, a coach always talk about playing every game like it was your last, leaving everything out on the field and having no regrets. Thankfully Fechter can sleep at night knowing that the last time she put on a Holton uniform she played her heart out. On what would have been her ninth goal of the game, Fechter tore her ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season. Even after being carried off the field, Fechter was all about the team. In between her tears, she still found the strength to cheer on her team, making sure her teammates knew that she was still with them.

"It's unfortunate that Soleine will spend the remainder of the season on the sideline, but I know she will continue to show strength and leadership just as she has the entire season. She is an incredible role model for our younger athletes, hardworking, driven, humble, and always hungry to do her best for her teammates. As a three year member of the varsity team, I am thankful for the legacy she has created," commented her coach.

Come out and cheer on Soleine Fechter '17 and the varsity lacrosse team in their final game of the regular season, Tuesday, May 9 at 4:15 p.m. the Connelly School of the Holy Child. For the most up-to-date schedule and results, click here to check out the varsity lacrosse team page.
